FbxRecorder is a simple stand-alone application for recording camera tracking data and converting the camera motion into AUTODESK FBX animation files. AUTODESK FBX is a 3D data exchange format natively used by many AUTODESK products such as AUTODESK MAYA,MOTIONBUILDER, SOFTIMAGE, 3DS MAX and many more.
The Stype Kit is currently suported by FbxRecorder.
The recorded animation curves can be visualized live by the FBXRecorder without the need of having an AUTODESK product installed on the recording computer. Note, however, AUTODESK offers a free viewer for MS Windows 7/8 64-Bit called FBX Review in order to view the motion in a FBX scene.
FBX merge tools can be used to merge the pure camera motion generated by the FBXRecorder with any user defined FBX scene to generate a FBX scene containing both scenes. Switch in FBXReview to the FBXRecorder 'camera' and move track to view your set from the real camera point of view. Contact me, in case you need this service.
The software receives camera tracking data from a network interface as UDP packages and record the data stream in main memory (RAM). The recorded data can be visualized as data plots in the application and converted into a FBX scene containing the camera motion as animation channels of a virtual camera model. The FBX scene and/or the raw tracking data is saved to disk.
Automatic recording and conversion: The process to record, convert and save the camera animation can be controlled by either manually clicking the corresponding buttons in the graphical user interface or by letting the camera recordbutton trigger this action automatically.
FBXRecorder aims at supporting as many camera tracking systems as possible. The Stype Kit is currently suported. Do you need more ? Support for any tracking equipment with live UDP data export can be added easily -- just inform us what is needed in your studio.
FbxRecorder is available for the Microsoft Windows7/8 32/64 Bit platform. Versions for other operation systems, such as Linux, are available on demand.
Stay tuned for an evaluation version within the next week. Here is the manual.
